Fundamentalism by any other name . . .

Is still fundamentalism, and that translates into resistance to change – an unwillingness to move forward. While resistance to change can be the crucible for testing which new ideas are best, and which are flawed, intransigence becomes a barrier to progress.

    We Are Family

We’ve already heard it in spades, and for the next year and a couple of months, as the Republican hopefuls crisscross the country trying to dislodge Obama from the Whitehouse, we will hear a litany of horror stories about big government, and Obama’s failure to cure all the ills left from eight years of Bush/Cheney mismanagement.

A few of mankind's dumbest ideas

    The Truth About Jobs

Not Steve Jobs, but jobs in America. It looks like jobs will be the next big fight between Democrats, Republicans, and the Tea Party.

    U.S. Debt Crisis?

Not really - it's a revenue crisis. A day at the races

I’m happy to say that our day at the races bore no resemblance to the Marx Brothers’ movie of the same name. There was no sanitarium, no evil Dr. Steinberg, and no encoded tips from Tony (Chico Marx), just a beautiful early summer day, lots of sunshine, and a great time to be at Emerald Downs.

The strange seduction that is golf

Here's another column from my weekly paper, The Queen Anne/Magnolia News

Without golf, my profane vocabulary would likely be more limited than it is.

Much has been said and written about golf by players, sports writers, humorists, and a lot of folk most of us never heard of. Golfers try to explain why they play, and non-golfers look at them as if they’d just escaped the loony bin. Continued

    Ayatollah Bachmann?

Are the Republicans serious about Bachmann for president? This would be like electing Ayatollah Khomeini as president. I’m sure you remember the man that turned Iran into a theocracy if not, that's him on the left. Though rare, it is possible for a woman to be an Ayatollah. In Iran, Madam Zohreh Sefati is a female Ayatollah. She and Bachmann would likely get along wonderfully.
